Description | Three dimensional puppet with wooden torso, wooden head, wooden arms, articulated at shoulder and elbows, cotton skirt from waist down. Puppet is held and operated by a wooden stick which passes through a hole in the torso and into the base of the head and by sticks attached to the hands. Light brown face, rest of skin gold. Narrow eyes, straight nose. Black curly hair. Headdress with crown, ear ornaments, and garuda mungkur. Paint of head chipping badly. Dark blue rings at upper arms and wrists. Light brown velvet chest cover with black collar. Pink sash with white looped designs. batik skirt; light brown/dark blue with diagonal stripes of lozenges and broad bands with 3 part leaves. Panel down front of a different batik; cream with overall pattern of thin brown lines forming lozenges with dots in centers, plus brown/black/light blue leaf and flower pattern. Written on base; I. Unidentified prince; a son of one of the Pandawa. |
