Description | CBS Register: Babylonian seal cylinder, chalcedony PBS XIV: The four winged Bel-Marduk holds by the leg two winged sphinxes with bearded human head. He has the usual round mitre, beard, heavy hair and open flounced shawl girded about above his short tunic. The sphinxes have the same round mitre, curled beard and heavy hair, the body and tail of a lion, with the wings of an eagle. The reverse has an eight pointed star, a palm like tree of life, a rhomb and two border lines. Convex cyl. seal. Chalcedony, 33 ½ x 16 mm. |
