Description

Large feather fan with nine Hyacinth blue and yellow Macaw tail feathers and beaded handle. The lower 5” portion of each feather is decorated with goat skin, as well as steamed cardboard covered with dyed dove feathers stuck on with pine pitch in a design that shows the cross in the background referring to the four directions. The “stacks” are made of tightly wrapped colored thread in “fire colors” of red, orange, yellow, purple, blue, black and white variegated, and black and white striped partridge feathers, and glass sequins. The metal detachable handle is covered in beaded deerskin using the peyote stitch in two design bands: the lower design register with a red background and orange, green, purple, blue, red, and blue beads, and the upper register with a blue background and orange, yellow, green, purple, and white glass beads. The braided hide tassel is a male style, braided tightly, and ends in 12 twisted strands. The handle twists off. There is strong prayer medicine in the handle as well as in the middle hide covered section.
