Description | Plain. Ovoid body, cylindrical neck; two vertical loop handles on body. Narrow-necked jar/bottle with an ovate body, cylindrical neck, rounded rim, 2 strap handles on the body, and a flat base. There are no molded/modeled additions and no decoration. There appears to be a smoothed finish on the exterior. The vessel was likely fired in an oxidizing atmosphere as the ceramic paste is orange in color. One side of the neck appears dark gray and porous, possibly from overfiring. Evidence of usewear includes residues/staining on the exterior. There is a shiny dark brown resinous layer on the surface. The catalogue number is written on the bottom of the base and black ink on the interior of neck reads: "1623-h." |
