Effigy Vessel

Narrow necked whistling vessel with an effigy-zoomorphic body, missing neck, missing rim, 1 strap handle extending from the neck to the body, and a rounded base. The vessel is shaped like a bird and is painted with spots and lines representing the pattern on the bird. There is also a bird shaped whistle on one side. There appears to be a burnished finish on the exterior. The vessel was likely fired in an oxidizing atmosphere as the ceramic paste is orange in color. The catalogue number is written on the object in black ink on the bottom of the base. Black ink on the bottom of the base reads: "1809."
