Description

Gong used in Buddhist temples. Large, flat, metal gong plate. Some metal relief designs on surface. Characters written on one side of the gong read:

播刕明石郡

月江山雲晴寺

開山能山鑄

寬永拾六辛巳年

平安城住

天下一筑後大掾藤原氏重作

Meaning: “N¬ōzan, founding abbot of Tsukiyeyama Unseji monastery in Akashi District, Harima Province, commissioned this to be cast in the 16th year of the Kan’ei era [1639], cyclical year xinsi [= 1641]. Masterpiece of ‘number one under heaven’, resident of Heianjō, Chikugo daijō Fujiwara-shi.”
