Description | Spherical body, short neck with everted lip, one loop handle shoulder to neck. Plain round bottom with face of bird on the neck Face-neck vessel. Narrow-necked jug with a globular body, hyperboloid neck, rounded rim, 1 strap handle extending from the neck to the body, and a rounded base. The body is painted with curvilinear design and there is a modeled/molded bird head on the neck. The vessel appears to have been smoothed with a rotative movement on the exterior and smoothed with rotative movement at neck on the interior of the neck. The vessel was likely fired in a reducing atmosphere as the surface is black and the interior is gray in color. Fireclouding is present on the body. Evidence of usewear includes surface attrition on the bottom/base. The catalogue number is written on the object in black ink. Black ink on the bottom of the base reads: "2815." |
