Description

Angular body, long rather wide neck, one vertical loop handle shoulder to neck. Molded ornamented band on body. Earthenware, with face on neck.

Face-neck vessel. Narrow-necked jug with a globular body, effigy-anthropomorphic neck, rounded rim, 1 strap handle extending from the neck to the body, and a flat base. The vessel has a raised geometric pattern on the body of zigzags and circles. The neck is shaped like a face with cylindrical hat, ears, nose, eyes, and mouth. There appears to be a burnished finish on the exterior. The vessel was likely fired in an oxidizing atmosphere as the ceramic paste is orange in color. Fireclouding is present on the body. The catalogue number is written on the object in black ink on the bottom of the base. No other numbers are visible on the object.
