Description | Flat base, tapering lower body, expanding neck. Two vertical loop handles on equator. Painted red with bands on upper body and upper neck, red and black on white ground. Narrow-necked jar/bottle with an ovate body, flaring neck, rounded rim, 2 strap handles on the body, and a flat base. No molded/modeled additions. The vessel is painted orange on the top half of the body with a band of chevron design on the shoulder in white, black, red, and purple. There appears to be a smoothed finish on the exterior and a smoothed finish on the interior. The vessel was likely fired in an oxidizing atmosphere as the ceramic paste is orange in color. Evidence of usewear includes black staining on the interior and mottled black staining at the interior. The catalogue number is written on the bottom of the base and black ink on the bottom of the base reads: "1843." |
