Description

Ovoid body, nearly cylindrical neck; one vertical loop handle shoulder to neck; red jug; face modeled on neck, arms and drawn up knees modeled on body and painted white

Face-neck vessel. Narrow-necked jug with an ovate body, cylindrical neck, flattened rim, 1 strap handle extending from the neck to the body, and a flattened base. Molded face added to neck with raised arms and legs in relief on the body outlined and painted white and black. There appears to be a smoothed finish on the exterior. The vessel was likely fired in an oxidizing atmosphere with localized reduction as the ceramic paste is orange to gray in color. The catalogue number is written on the object in black ink. Black ink on the bottom of the base reads: "2760."
