Description

Sommerville: Onyx. Pallas. Greek and Roman Cameos, Case S.

Vermeule: Onyx. Cameo. (Unmounted). Draped bust of a divinity facing to right. She wears a crested helmet. Sommerville identifies her as Athena, but Dea Roma appears to be intended. Graeco-Roman, probably of the first half of the IV century A.D. when similar representations of Dea Roma appears on imperial medallions and coins.
