Description | Pottery. With a face in low relief and painted animal faces. Cup or 'qero' with an effigy-anthropomorphic body, flaring neck, rounded rim, no handles, and a flat base. The vessel is shaped like a human face with a headdress. The face is painted delineating the features in red, black, and white. Painted on the opposite side of the body are two double sided animal heads in orange and black. There appears to be a burnished finish on the exterior and a smoothed finish on the interior. The vessel was likely fired in an oxidizing atmosphere as the ceramic paste is orange in color. The catalogue number is written on the bottom of the base and black ink on the bottom of the base reads: "2118." |
