Description | Awl or bec. Thick and roughly oval with long projection ending in rounded tip. Made from a secondary flake as part of cortex on end and percussion bulb on side is visible. Gray stone. Awls have been found in sites from the Late Paleolithic to the Yayoi Periods. This example appears to have more in common with the cruder and round tipped becs as described by Takeru Akazawa and others in "The Japanese Paleolithic: A Techno-typological Study." |
